Cell Phones Do Everything Now

In recent years technology has gone to new heights. From the initial boom of the Internet to things like smart phones and ipads it amazes me how far we have come. I remember when having a cell phone was only for the rich but now everyone has one even kids as young 6. Now with the invention of the smartphone a whole new market has opened up. According to gigaom.com 1in 2 American's will own a smartphone by Christmas of 2011.

People who own smartphones are usually people who want access to everything at their fingertips. Having a smartphone myself (team blackberry) I know just how convenient the many apps are. I mean there is an app for everything from picking a restaurant to showing you where the cheapest gas station is. Apps have added a whole element  the experience of our electronic devices, so it only makes sense that they would add apps that allow you to pay for things by scanning your phone.

It is cool that Starbucks added an app that you can pay from your phone. While the idea is cool, is it really that convenient? On one hand this technology could allow you to leave your wallet or purse at home and still be able to pay for something. On the other hand it can be argued that it take just as much time, if not more, to pull up that barcode as it does to just pull out a credit card or cash and pay. Either way its nice to have an option.

These technologies are definitely on the rise and will continue to amaze us. Sometimes I wonder what's next; do you?
